Making it happen...

So the other day I stated that we can't expect change until we actually make a change ourselves.  I believe that so many of us know where we want to get to, but struggle in how we go from one point to the next.  We often don't feel comfortable with the unknown, and are hesitant to actively stay under conditions we aren't familiar with.  I guess we could even question how bad we truly want change if we aren't willing to take the steps necessary to have it.  It all turns into just empty lip service at that point.

Think about this.  If you want to get better at something, you practice and work at it, right?  The NBA Finals have been showing Dirk practicing moves by himself that he later executes under pressure during gametime.  He puts the time in and has studied what it will take to have the best chance at the end result he desires.  Same can be said in our jobs.  Or for people that play instruments.  Anything we do, if we want to be better, we have to change how we do it, and put in massive effort and focus.

So then in our lives, if we say we want to be more Christ-like, then what are we TRULY willing to sacrifice and put into having that?  It takes daily effort and pouring ourselves into practicing our faith, just as my man Dirk puts all he has into being the best basketball player he can be.  Just as he can't expect to be better without the efforts, we also can't expect to be filled more with what God wants to give us if we don't ACTIVELY put into it.

The question for us then is this---what do we truly want in our lives, and what are we willing to sacrifice or change from our current way of living to have it?
