Losing it...

Proverbs 19:27
Stop listening to instruction my son, and you will stray from the words of knowledge.

I know in our lives we seem to go through peaks and valleys, right?  Sometimes we are on fire, feeling close with the Lord, seeing him guide our each and every step.  Then other times we feel lost, alone, like we have some serious wax buildup or our belltone is off, because we can't seem to get motivated to get our life on the track we know it has been on before.

Many times in the Bible we are instructed to some of the things that make up how we should be living daily.  We are told to pray without ceasing, to stay in the Word, to share and fill our conversations and heads with things of God.  Yet we are also told that we have a sinful and selfish nature, and we can't help but desire the things that aren't of God that we shouldn't be desiring.

So what the crap, right???  Why does it have to be that way???

Well, we have a choice in all we do.  I have said many times here that my belief is that we choose and dictate our attitudes and actions.  What we choose is largely based on where our heart is.  If we are about us, then our choices lean to the selfish side.  If we are about others and God, then our choices are usually of Him.  Pretty simple concept.

So taking it back to the verse mentioned earlier, it is up to us to pay attention to the instruction that we get from the Holy Spirit as we walk daily in our lives.  If we stop listening to it, then it is clear what will happen.  It might seem to us that once in a while avoiding the Spirit might be ok, but as we settle for less than God's best once, we will surely find it easier to do again, then perhaps over and over.  I have been there.  Not a fun place.  Trust me.  Don't give the devil an inch.  He is way too real and powerful to do that.

So make it a point to seek the Word daily.  Even just a verse from Proverbs that you can think about, or talk to your friends and loved ones about.  It will make a difference in your life, I promise.  Seek out wise people and make it a point to have appointments to speak with them often.  Turn your car radio off now and then and just listen to God.  You'll be amazed at what He wants to tell you!

I wish all of the fathers out there a Happy Father's Day, and I hope yours was amazing as mine!

Have a great week, and change a life out there as you go through it!  It's not about us!
