Some days are easier than others...

You know, as humans it is very hard sometimes to separate what our own hearts want vs what God wants.  Our own minds try to overtake what he is telling us and cloud the truth.  I think that is just very natural.  To choose something that we know God is allowing and is in his will breaks our hearts when we have been going down a different path the other way for so long.  Some things are just to be beyond our understanding.  I know in these times that we can NEVER go wrong hiding our hearts in God's chest and purely and totally trusting him.  As tough as that is to have to physically get up and walk through, God promises many times that his will is beautiful and blessed for us, and that trusting in him is the only way to it.  I believe that, have faith in that, and put my full trust in that. 


Father, my heart hurts, and you know my burdens.  I give them all to you, and am trusting you.  I will not settle for less than your best, no matter what my selfish heart or this dirty world tells me.  I see the fruit of your work in my life, and I want more.  Rid me of anything and everything that gets in the way of fully pursuing you, so I can be as much like your Son as possible.  I will never be ashamed of choosing you, and the peace and joy that comes with that choice is unmatched.  Heal my heart, fill it with your Word and your love.  Fill my minutes and seconds with only things of you, and I pray that people will see your work through my life.  I pray they will see Jesus in me.  I look forward to the things that you have ahead for me, and know that as I journey towards them, even in tough times, that I am not alone.  You are always there with me.  Forgive me where I fail you, Lord.  Cleanse me of my sins.  Make me a new creation molded as you see fit.  Thank you for loving me.  Thank you for saving me.  Thank you for your Son Jesus.  I love you Lord.  My life is yours.

Pride vs Humility...

Two powerful things those are.  Pride has everything to do with selfishness, being closed-minded, and being unaccepting.  Humility being brokenness, admitting weakness, being receptive to the spirit and learning, and selflessness.

When we look at a few places where these are talked about in the Bible, we see the absolute differences in the two---which one is of God, and which one isn't.

It is clearly seen just in the descriptions under each word which leads to God's goodness and riches, and which leads to destruction.  Let's carry humility with us 24/7, so that we can always be able to clearly hear what it is that the Spirit is saying to lead and guide us.  That way we ensure that it is God's plan and path that we are on, and not that of our own which leads directly away from God.  Toss ALL pride to the side and look only at things through God's eyes---NOT your own!

Peace...

It's a two-post Sunday! 

I have been spending the weekend seeking peace and answers for some things, and these three passages on peace have stuck out to me.  Between all three, the whole Trinity is represented.

Philippians 4:4-9
Rejoice in the Lord always.  I will say it again: Rejoice!  Let your gentleness be evident to all.  The Lord is near.  Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.  And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.  Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable--if anything is excellent or praiseworthy--think about such things.  Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me--put into practice.  And the God of peace will be with you.


It is pretty clear right there.  We are called to rejoice.  If we are focused on the goodness of God and seeking his paths for our lives, then we leave no time for a lack of peace.  Even tough and troubling times fade quickly because we understand that God is in ultimate control of EVERYTHING.  Peace comes with the pursuit of Godliness and focus on goodness.  Our minds are instructed specifically here.  Following this leaves less room in our lives for Satan to attack---which we all know he is EAGERLY waiting to do.  And then the word "practice".  We should be practicing our faith daily in our lives.  Heck, every minute we should be!

Galatians 5:22-23
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.  Against such things there is no law.


So that means that these things listed here are good, and from goodness and Godliness comes peace---so it seems pretty clear here again the things that we should be constantly be focused on.  Read that list of things again and think about what they look like in practice daily. 

John 14:25-27
All this I have spoken while still with you.  But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.  Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you.  I do not give to you as the world gives.  Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.


I love this.  The Holy Spirit teaches and reminds us what all Jesus has said that he had received ultimately from God the Father.  Think about it though---were you ever in class and being taught but weren't actually LISTENING?  It is very much on us to be in a state that we are actively listening for the Spirit and what it is telling us.  The Holy Spirit will NEVER be guilty of not trying on our behalf.  It is ALWAYS on us to be doing our part.  And then it says that Jesus has given us HIS peace.  Wow.  Think of the peace he walked this earth with.  No matter the circumstances, always having a direct line with God, always in control of thought.  Then finally the comment on the world.  The world is a tough thing to keep away from.  The world is powerful in our lives---if we allow it to be.  But if we are seeking the Lord with our whole hearts, then this passage from Christ's mouth tells us that our peace will NOT come in anything from this world.  Not money, not things, not people----ONLY God.  We CAN'T have it both ways.  One or the other. 

When we have peace we can have a bold confidence.  We know then that we are living right and walking as close as we can with God.  We still should be keeping our guard up, and giving everything to Him in effort to continue growing, but here is something that is said about that confidence we gain:

Hebrews 10:35-36
So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded.  You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.


Powerful promise right there!

As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord!

Heavenly Father, you ARE my strength and my song.  I give you this day, and for any and all the good that comes in it I give you the glory and praise.  I am just a weak and sinful man, and deserve nothing.  Yet you loved me enough to send your Son to the cross and shed his blood there---for ME!  The trials that seem so big to me pale in comparison to that sacrifice.  I come to you broken.  I pray for your perfect will in my life, and I trust the path you have me on.  My life is in your hands.  Thank you for your love, grace, and mercy.  You and everything about you are so very good.

Some things I stand on...

These are just a few verses that I am holding close to my heart and mind as I go through my weekend.  I hope they can bring you encouragement as they do me.

Jeremiah 29:11-13
"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.  Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.  You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all of your heart."

It seems that people love to focus more on the 11th verse, but it is the last statement, verse 13, that I find provides the most encouragement.  We are told right there how to find God and find the answers that we seek in our lives.  His guidance is that simple to find!

Matthew 6:34
Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.  Each day has enough trouble of its own.

That tells me that when we start losing focus of what is in front of us today because we are too worried about figuring out our futures, we are going against God.  It is by faith we follow our convictions and the Holy Spirit.  In doing that, we know that we are where we are suppossed to be and are living out those verses in Jeremiah mentioned above.  Focus on today.  I know that is hard to do sometimes, but we are called to have that kind of faith and trust in God.  Take advantage of the blessings and opportunities in front of you TODAY.

1 Corinthians 13:13
And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love.  But the greatest of these is love.

Wow.  I think that faith and hope are some pretty powerful and important things.  So to have love mentioned as even greater speaks volumes to me.  When you think about the attitude and heart involved in truly loving, it makes me believe that love CAN conquer all.  Love is that strong.  Love involves both faith and hope.  I choose to believe in love and the power of love.

Proverbs 28:14
Blessed is the man who always fears the Lord, but he who hardens his heart falls into trouble.

Powerful words.  The heart is the wellspring of life according to the Word.  It is our hearts that first accept and love Christ.  So anytime we are going against Christ, I believe we are hardening.  That speaks of the importance of walking closely with the Holy Spirit, staying strong in the Word of God, and surrounding ourselves with wise counsel and constant accountability of some form or fashion.  Anytime we stray from this, we are at risk of allowing Satan a foothold.  Period.  The only way is to be constantly meditating on the Word and the good and life-changing things of God. 


Father, you know the desires of my heart, but it is your will that I want to live and have.  I know you have the best for me, and I submit my life to you.  I graciously accept anything and everything you have ever given me, and will give me going forward.  Your love is perfect, and I hope people will see your Son through me as I walk this Earth daily somehow.  Thank you for your Word that brings wisdom, comfort, and encouragement.  I love you, Lord.  Hear my prayers today, and bring peace, comfort, joy, and a renewed spirit, heart, and mind to those I lift up to you.  Thank you for moving and working among us.  Thank you for my time with you and in your Word today.  I give you the praise and glory for everything---no matter what.

God's plan prevails...

You know, when you stop and think about it, how many of us are going through things in our life that we just don't understand, yet can't seem to change?  Proverbs 19:21 says, "Many are the plans of a man's heart, but it's the Lord's purpose that prevails."  That is a hard statement to live sometimes.  But in all my time of learning, living, and seeking, I have come to realize that even when I don't understand, or my heart hurts, or I don't know what is next, that it is still best and I am called to TRUST by FAITH whatever it is that the Lord has for me.  That I am to seek Him in my every moment, action, and attitude.  That I am to live a life pleasing to Him, and be thankful for the things he HAS given me, not be upset at what He hasn't. 

Again---that is very hard sometimes, and our hearts don't always hop on board as quick as we need them to.


Lord, I give you my day and my life.  You own my heart, and I trust you and your goodness.  You guide my steps, and you equip me with all I need to live a life pleasing to you.  I give you my burdens, and ask you to forgive and cleanse me of my sins.  I love you, Lord.  I want only your will to be done.

In conclusion...

So two verses, of many, that might help sum up how we should be living daily and spending our TIME:

Ephesians 5:1-2
Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God

Matthew 28:19-20a
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.


There are some good things in there.  First, go see how Jesus thought of children and the things he said about them.  Also, we are to love as Christ loved.  That is tough for me sometimes, as I am sure it is you, but it doesn't change that we are still called to do it. 

So I imagine anything that gets in the way of living a life of love is not in the will God has for us.  What do you think?  What do these verses mean to you?  What gets in the way of this for you?  Is this easy or hard?  What other verses come to mind that you go to when it comes to spending our time?

It's around here somewhere...

After writing yesterday, God has been all over my heart thinking of those that will answer that post with, "Well, there just isn't enough time!"  I personally have found that statement to be nothing but false.  I have heard Tim Montgomery even say from the pulpit that we MAKE time for the things WE want to do!  I completely agree.

I learned today that the first time the word "love" was used in the Bible was referring to sacrifice (Gen 22:2).  If we are to love Christ, and love our neighbors as ourselves, then it seems there is much sacrifice to be involved in that.  Heck, think of the blood that was shed on the cross for us!  Talk about sacrifice!

So, we have the time, it's just a matter of getting things lined out to get ourselves out of the way and allow God to work.  Really, nothing should be about "us".  When we walk into church, it isn't about us.  When we spend our money, it isn't about us.  When we talk to others, it isn't about us.  Even in our workday, whatever that involves, it still isn't about us.  I know, I know---easier said than done---but the question is more about the EFFORT we put into PURSUING God and His will for our lives.  That directly involves how every minute of our day is spent, and the attitude behind every thought, action, and word.

Time...

Probably our greatest tangible thing we can actually give to each other.  I know I have mentioned this before, but I figured that some things will be repeated themes as time goes on---this being one of them.

In class this morning, we watched the "Outlive Your Life" video, and one of the things a group did to minister was giving of time coupled with quarters.  They went to a laundromat and paid for people's laundry over the course of time.  They stayed there and got to know people, and were able to watch as God used their actions and giving to bless others.  Giving the quarters is easy.  So is writing a check, or dumping cash in a bucket.  Not so easy is to set our schedules aside and give freely of our most prized asset---TIME! 

That got me thinking about how I use my time.  I do try to be very willing to meet others where they are in their lives and make it not about me.  Some days are great, but of course there are the days and moments out there that it becomes tougher to do.  And what about the time we spend with other believers?  Are we ALWAYS sharpening each other, or are we USING our iron?  I find myself guilty of the latter more than I would like.  Sometimes it is like I keep waiting for God to show me that big billboard that says, "Tommy---this is God---do XXXXXXXXXXXX".  I'll bet I am not the only one that thinks that way.

I have decided in the past few weeks to listen to God more and reach out and talk about things and share things with people that in the past I would have never done that with.  This blog and the ministry it is becoming for me is one of them.  It might be as simple as asking questions on how to pray for people that didn't know my faith.  Or reaching out to someone that God has put in my path or on my heart that I was hesitant to reach out to before. 

I encourage you to think about that in your life.  If God has put it on your heart, and you are simply following it, what do you have to fear or be embarassed about?  That isn't the easiest lesson to learn, but the boldness that comes from obedience is so very worth it.  I am getting to experience that and the peace that accompanies it to a small degree, and I want MORE of it!

Get to know someone this week in a whole new way.  Make a bold move for the Lord.  Ask Him to show you what that might be, and seek someone out and talk about it first---just DON'T let it lie under the rug and wither away!

God is good, and I believe with my whole heart that He has AMAZING things going on that He wants us to be a part of!

Self-control...

Our FAT group has been reading a great book and then having the chance to discuss it on Friday mornings.  This week Chris facilitated the topic of self-control.  I think it is important that we share with others what God is teaching us, so I wanted to put down a few things that we read, as well as a few scriptures to hold close to your heart when it comes to this topic.  All of this comes from "The Practice of Godliness" by Jerry Bridges.  It is a fantastic book, and a great way to build a stronger foundation as a compliment to the Bible, no matter where you are in your walk:

- Self-control is the believer's wall of defense against the sinful desires that wage war against our soul
- We need to practice self-control against bodily appetites and desires, as well as thoughts, emotions, and speech
- We have sinful desires that lie and dwell within our hearts at all times
- Sound judgement is the beginning of self-control, and the Bible is essential to sound judgement
- The battle for self-control is fought primarily within our own minds
- The more we say no to sinful desires, the more we are ABLE to say no

Ultimately, self-control is the exercise of inner strength under the direction of sound judgement that enables us to do, think, and say things that are pleasing to God

There is nothing easy about self-control.  I think it is safe to say that all of us in some form or fashion have to face this daily.  It might be food, drink, thoughts, lust, sex, gossip, anger---or many more---but it IS real.  The great news is that God has given us the tools we need to seek Him and flee from these things that bring harm and hurt to our lives, and cause us to grow apart from where He wants us to be.

Lord, I give you anything in my life that gets in the way of loving and serving you.  I desire for my actions and thoughts to bring you glory.  Forgive and cleanse me of any sin that gets in the way.  Thank you for your love, mercy, grace, and your Word that gets me through each day.  I live to bring you glory.  I give you my life.

Changing your vision...

Do you find yourself frustrated or struggling to make it through your work day?  Bored with your job and the normal day-to-day same stuff?  Going through the motions mostly?

Have you ever thought about where your motivation is during your day?  How are you VIEWING your day? 

I have found much peace, joy, and satisfaction in my work-day, and I give the credit to God.  I have done so much better at looking at any moment I am awake as an opportunity to serve Him and make an impact in another's life as oppossed from thinking of my day as having to work 8-5.  I view other people as opportunities and divine appointments as oppossed to just people. 

Just something to think about as you head out to end your week tomorrow.  Allow God to be in control of your mind and eyes, and see things as He does.

Vision and passion...

I hate I missed Tim's lesson at lunch on Monday.  I hear from one of my best friends that was there that there was a section of the talk on vision, and specifically about visions we get from God for our lives. 

That leads me to this tonight---do you get visions from God about yourself, ministry, or life?  What are they?  Do they seem far-fetched to you?  Impossible?  My only thing to say to any of that is that God is ALMIGHTY and can give us the power and strength to do ANYTHING He wants us to do!  It is just our job to listen to the Holy Spirit as it leads, and then follow-through on what it says to us.

It seems that most of our visions might deal with what we are passionnate about in some form or fashion.  One of the things I have had to learn is that what might be important to me and fill me with passion isn't necessarily what others close to me are passionnate about.  Alot of times that might discourage us, and Satan would love for us to buy into the fact that nobody cares, but truth is, if God fills you with it, see it through. 

This blog is my best example of that in my life.  There are some people that read it often, some here and there, and some closest to me haven't at all.  At first, I think Satan tried to frustrate me with that.  I praise God that over time, He reminded me that my job is to control what I can control and just be faithful and obedient to what He puts on my heart, and it will be fruitful.  I am very passionnate about this.  I love writing and sharing, and believe in my heart that God will use this to change someone's life in some form or fashion.  I have had to learn that it is ok to tell others about it, and in the event they don't care or read it ever, that is fine.  All God has asked me to do is be faithful to it, share about it, and trust Him.  So that is all I worry about!  I don't care what people think about that, because I am just being faithful!

Our Sunday School class is going over "Outlive Your Life" by Max Lucado.  In it, there are many different ministries mentioned that people have started, and it all started with a vision, and the passion to see it through.  My man Will mentioned Sunday the fact I mentioned earlier about what one has passion about, another might not.  I know this study is happening for a reason right now, and the teachings many of us are hearing are geared towards this with a purpose behind it!  Think about that in your life, and what you are suppossed to do with that information.

My encouragement to you is to share with someone what your vision or passion is.  Heck, I ask you to take a minute and do it here!  You never know who else might have the same passions or visions, and what God can do through people sharing their hearts!  TRUST WHAT HE HAS PUT IN THERE!!!!

My passion is encouraging others and motivating.  I love sharing what God has taught me and impacting people's lives for Him.  I see myself speaking to groups or teaching people one day.  Details beyond that are still a mystery at this point!  I'd love the opportunity to go to different groups or churches and sing and give my testimony.  I want people to know that this life isn't "one-and-done" when it comes to failure.  I could go on for hours about my passion to share those things, and so much more! 

So what is in your heart?  What would you do if money didn't matter?  How would you spend your time?

You can't put a price on peace of mind...

That's a statement that I'll bet most can't argue!  There really is something to be said about being able to walk throughout your day, week, and life with peace in your heart and mind.

But how do you get it?  How do you live it out?  IS it REALLY attainable???

Absolutely!  Some scriptures that I have enjoyed reading the last few days that deal with this some are 1 Peter 3:8-22, 1 Thessalonians 4:11-12, John 14:27, Rom 5:1, Colossians 3:15, and Psalm 34:14.

Pay special attention to the last verse.  It states to me that we are in fact INSTRUCTED to PURSUE peace.  It is our responsibility!

To me, it starts in our hearts from our end.  It is a choice.  An attitude.  Do we decide to faithfully trust God for HIS plan, or do we force life and make our own, which Proverbs 19:21 tells us will not work!  I believe that when we choose to have an attitude to seek God with all we have, and trust His word, His spirit, and surround ourselves with things of Him, we will be able to trust His plan and path and walk therefore in total peace.  We then understand that even the things we may seem negative are just a detail of our lives, but a detail that our Lord is still in control of.  His love for us is amazing!


Father, forgive me for the times I try to take control back of my life.  Forgive me where I fail you, Lord.  I lay my burdens down at your feet, and give you all of my heart and soul.  Use me as you wish for your glory, and your glory alone.  You are mighty, and I trust you.  I give you my life.  Thank you for sending Jesus, and thank you for what His blood stands for.  Thank you so much for filling my life and surrounding me with things that bring me peace.  Peace in YOU.  I love you, Lord.

It doesn't matter if you're a head or a toe---they all matter...

I love the 12th chapter of 1 Corinthians.  Have you ever noticed that in that chapter it talks about two important things when it comes to living out the Great Commission?  It speaks on both spiritual gifts and the many parts of the body. 

I don't think it's a coincidence whatsoever that these are both mentioned together there.  As we minister, to be most effective we need to know and utilize the first 11 verses in that chapter on spiritual gifts.  We need to know what areas we are gifted in, then put those to use where God gives opportunity---because He WILL!

The bigger part on my heart tonight is the second part of that chapter on the body.  It is easy to stop and think that our part, whether we find it big or small, won't matter at the end of the day when it comes to changing this world, country, or even city.  But that is so untrue!  People think that ministering happens at churches and on Sundays and Wednesdays.  They think that people don't see and watch who they are and how they act during the week.  Truth be told, in everything we do and everything we say, we are ministering somehow and someway to somebody.  It is up to us to decide whether we put out good or bad fruit from our tree.

Our human bodies amaze me.  We have SO many parts that perform SO many functions that it is just unfathomable.  Have you ever stopped and think about how God put our bodies together?  The endless number of parts, cells, particles, etc.  WOW!  What a showing of his awesomeness!  Yet every part has a function, and as the Word says, the body needs them all to function properly and effectively.

It is up to us to seek God closely and live out his plan for us.  Jeremiah 29:11 tells us that He DOES have a plan for our lives.  Proverbs 19:21 tells us that although as men we have many plans, it is the Lord's purpose that will prevail.  1 Corinthians 10:31 tells us that whether we eat or drink or whatever we do, we should be doing it for the glory of God.  Finally, Matthew 28:19 tells us to go and make disciples of all nations, and baptize them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Again, it really doesn't matter what our part is in it.  It is about being faithful to God and seeking His will for our lives.  In doing that, our path will be laid out and we can count on the Holy Spirit to guide us.  So whether our part in that is big or small to us, we will be effective for the Lord, keeping in mind that He is the BIGGEST part in all of this!

Make a difference this week.  Step out of your comfort zone and try to be used to change a life for God this week.  Pray for opportunities.  He will provide them!

Faith like a child...

Our men's FAT group has been reading a fantastic book.  Today we went over "holiness".  Tough stuff, seeing as how we all had to agree that since holiness is defined as "without sin", it is not possible to attain!  That doesn't mean that we should ever stop trying though.  So don't ever give up that pursuit of holiness!

As we talked about it, a guy I love like a brother sent a picture through of his new baby daughter, born just before we met as a group for breakfast.  As I looked at that picture, I thought of how innocent and pure children are, and how in each book of the Gospel, Jesus speaks of the innocence and beauty of little children.  The picture of that newborn beautiful baby was about as close to holiness as it gets for us humans! 

That was a theme throughout my day--children.  I took today off of work so I could enjoy watching my two oldest children participate in their field day at school.  There were a couple hundred kids out there enjoying about a dozen activities.  No worries, no stress, no negative---just pure joy on their faces.  I loved it!

Then tonight at my oldest's baseball game.  I love watching these kids play their hearts out and give their all.  When we coach, they listen.  When we praise them, you see the joy on their faces.  Shouldn't it be that way in our lives more?  Shouldn't we pay more attention to Jesus as He speaks of children and how much He loves them?  They don't let bills, work, frustration, family, etc, get in the way of whatever they are doing.  All they know is that someone is in charge of them and they need to pay attention and learn and be their best ALWAYS.  They listen to instruction, and then act on it accordingly, or face consequences.  They fear those consequences, therefore they straighten up or simply take any instruction quickly to heart.  Simple stuff, isn't it!?!?!?!?

Faith like a child....seems there might just be something to that.  We could stand to learn alot from our children if we will open our eyes and our hearts.

Wasted time...

Worry.  Do you worry?  Do you worry alot?

Read these:
Matt 6:25-34
Prov 12:25
Philippians 4:6-7
1 Peter 5:7

It seems that worry is negative and a form of fear.  Fear is negative and not of God.  Therefore, worry is not of God at all.  It shows a lack of faith in God and His authority and plan for our lives.  Worry steals time from us that we can't get back!  It robs your mind and heart from opportunities to learn, or to grow with God, or to be best prepared and alert to be used in another's life for the Kingdom of God.

Give it all up.  Leave it at the foot of the cross.  You'll gain peace, slap the devil in the face, and glorify God.  Sounds like a winner to me!

So many things on my mind...

I have alot of thoughts lately, so why not put them here!!  Ha!

-The Lakers looked pathetic as they lost to the Mavs.  I give Lamar Odom a pass on his hard check on Dirk-a-liscious, but Bynum acted like a PUNK with that play on Barea.  Odom's check looks worse when coupled with the cheap shot by Bynum.  The people that would know say that Odom is one of the classier guys around, although he showed poor judgement in that moment.  Either way, enjoy watching the Mavs from home Los Angeles Losers!

-Why is it so easy for people to point fingers and talk about people when they don't even know them?  I mean as far as making judgements on overall character, thoughts, motives, etc.  The heart is what God looks at, and forgiveness for sin in our lives is a very real thing.  So if we wanna talk about someone's heart or speak of their motives, should we not get to know the heart of that person first? 

-Guilty pleasure of mine = Bethenny Ever After on Bravo.  I wish she was a Christian.  I very much admire her strength, determination, and making the most of opportunities and not settling.  I think we all can learn from things like that in others, no matter who they are.  She had nothing, yet took an idea and became a multi-millionnaire in the end due to hard work and belief in that idea.  It greatly motivates me to pursue God in a new way.  To seek purpose in my life like I never have before.  Not only that, but to not settle for any less than God's best, and not let people hold me back from what I believe God wants from my life.  She impacts people and gives them hope and motivation to seek their best.  I hope I can do that in people's lives for the Lord and with the Holy Spirit as my guide.  It all started with an idea....don't sell ideas short!  FOLLOW THROUGH!  I say that to myself more than anything!

-I am having a hard time with our government.  I don't know what I think of stories changing over and over about this Osama stuff.  And why in the crap is that fella's name spelled two different ways???

-Who is going to beat Obama in 2012?  Can anyone?

-I love Proverbs.  They provide so much wisdom and insight, as well as solid direction.  I am excited about digging into them more with Timbo's Sunday morning series on them at church.

-Why do some people love pursuing drama?  I know in my own life, most drama I have ever been through was self-induced.  I freely admit that.  I also freely admit that life is so much better as drama is pushed further and further away!  I encourage anyone to seek a life that way!

-Since Osama is dead, do you think someone will give us back our money, guns, vehicles, and training that we gave he and his homeboys back in the early 80's??????

-I hope people tell others about this site.  I hope alot of men get to see this.  I hope it challenges people and encourages people.  I know God has a passion in my heart about it, and I have been reserved as far as "promoting" it, because I don't want it about me, but rather about how great God is!  I have had to learn that it is ok to tell people about it and ask them to check it out.  I hope for some good honest feedback, and that people will freely open up and share here.  I don't care who it is or what they think, as long as it is truth spoken from the heart.  No judging here.  So if you ever have the opportunity to tell others about this in any form or fashion, big or small, please DO IT!  And THANK YOU!  I wish a few people would just type the address in their facebook post and tell others to check it out and read some of the posts on here.  We HAVE to beleive that we can make a difference in anything and everything we do.  I wholeheartedly believe that.  I believe in my heart that lives can be changed, families and marriages strengthened, healing can occur, friendships formed, and so much more through sharing here.  Through being open and honest about who we are and what we think and feel.  Whether that is shared here, or the motivation and encouragement comes from here and comes to fruition somewhere else.  Pray for opportunites through here please.  And thank you!  I am often blessed in many different ways through this site and writing here.  God is so very good :)

I have alot more on my mind, but I will stop there for today.  Be sure to be a blessing out there.  See the world through someone else's eyes.  Step into their shoes for a minute.  Look at the world in a whole new way, and allow God to use you like He never has before!

The difference an extra inch can make...

First of all, stop thinking that sinners!  LOL

Have you ever thought about how easily so many things in life could be altered by an inch?  I say this because I watched the first game of the Mavs-Lakers series, and Kobe had a shot at the buzzer that was just one inch too long, and missed.  So the Mavs celebrated, while the Lakers hung their heads.  That shot was just one tiny inch from totally changing the fate of the night, the series, many bets, the moods of men and families, etc. 

Life is that way in everything.  Sports are easy to point out, but think of driving.  How many times have you heard of wrecks where the damage just missed a major artery?  Or a car barely missed another?  We can make this case in probably any topic we can think of, right?

Well, the reason I say that is all about the recognition of God's plan and authority in our lives.  He controls it all.  He knows all of our breaths, the hairs on our heads, our thoughts, etc.  He knows the plans He has for us, and He executes them with His perfect authority.  So why do we try to take control of it all ourselves?  Proverbs 19:21 says, "Many are the plans in a man's heart... but it is the Lord's purpose that prevails." 

There are times in all of our lives that we can see where there was a close call for something.  I "truck surfed" some in high school.  STUUUUUUUPPPPPPIIIIIIIIIID!  It is where you stand in a truck bed riding down the road trying to keep your balance.  Needless to say, I am writing this because one particular time I was almost thrown out, and barely hung on.  Anytime I hear of people losing their lives from the back of a truck bed, I quickly thank God for that extra inch my fingers had to hang onto the tailgate that kept me off of the pavement!  I could have been one-inch from death.

So stop sometime and think of those close calls.  Also think of times that didn't seem to be close calls but might actually have been.  God is watching every step of our lives.  He is the ultimate authority in them.  Be sure and thank Him for working things out the way He does for you, as He is working always for the good of those that are His, even when we don't recognize it or see it as such.  have that kind of faith!


Also, thanks to all of you for the kind birthday wishes.  God has blessed me with great friends and loved ones in my life.  I look very forward to what this year will bring for this 34-year old!

Back and forth...

I have pretty strong feelings about how our president is doing when it comes to running our country, and I am admittedly pretty hard on him and his policies and ideas.  I also am fair, and want to stop and give him credit for pulling the trigger on this mission, which is a positive for our country.  I also think President Bush deserves large amounts of credit as well for his methods of dealing with terrorism.  I know many families feel justice has started to be served with this killing and this man going to hell.

That is the American in me.

The christian in me has a sore heart at the fact that hell is more populated now. 

It is tough to draw the line on where I stand on all of this.  I want to hate Osama and rejoice at his murder pretty bad.  Every time I do though, God convicts me that hate has no place in my heart, and rejoicing at the suffering or death of anyone isn't my place---even this man.  The way I see it, God is in control, and He allowed this to happen.  Therefore, it was His will.  So I give God glory for showing His power and authority in this.  That's where I stop giving praise.  I will say also that I am thankful that there is one less evil terrorist on this earth.

I wonder what others think of this?  I wonder what other christians think of this?  Do my feelings make sense?  Do you agree?  I don't know that I am right, I just am sharing what is in my heart.

Either way, and no matter what, God is good.  He is the King of Kings, and He is my Lord.  I look at all this stuff and realize that the world is going to continue to get worse, and terrorism will increase towards America atleast in the short-term due to this.  Sure makes me glad that I know where I am going when my time comes to leave this earth.  Thanks for saving me Father!

I pray each one of you has the chance to live a life of peace and joy with Christ.  I promise His love is real, and making Him your best friend is so very worth it!

Lord, grant me more wisdom...

Proverbs 1

The Purpose of Proverbs
   
   1 These are the proverbs of Solomon, David’s son, king of Israel.
    2 Their purpose is to teach people wisdom and discipline,
      to help them understand the insights of the wise.
    3 Their purpose is to teach people to live disciplined and successful lives,
      to help them do what is right, just, and fair.
    4 These proverbs will give insight to the simple,
      knowledge and discernment to the young.
    5 Let the wise listen to these proverbs and become even wiser.
      Let those with understanding receive guidance
    6 by exploring the meaning in these proverbs and parables,
      the words of the wise and their riddles.
    7 Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true knowledge,
      but fools despise wisdom and discipline.


I desire wisdom from the Lord.  As I have said many times, I am but a simple man who tries to learn from the discipline and teachings that God has injected into my life.  I fail daily.  I am far from perfect.

Having said that, I see great strides in my daily walk that I give God full credit and glory for.  It is possible to have increased peace, joy, and grow in wisdom when we do our all to sell out completely to the Lord and His will.

Whatever struggles you are dealing with today, I encourage you to lay them at the foot of the cross.  I also tell you that there isn't anything God can't do.  He is awesome, powerful, loving, almighty, a healer, joy-giver, and judger.  He is everything we ever could need.  I know so many people must walk around with a heart that is hurting and turning colder everyday because they think nobody cares.  If you read this and don't know me, then I am inviting you to reach out to me and share, because I have a deep care for others.  Sometimes we just need a place to let our hearts free of those burdens.  To confess our sins and cleanse ourselves and get a fresh start.  This life is NOT a "one-and-done" kind of life.  Just because you feel you have let God down or failed in the past along the way to today doesn't mean God can't still do GREAT and MIGHTY things through you!  What I hope you hear more than anything is that it is not the act of temptation in our lives that is bad, it's what we do with it as soon as we recognize it.  That ATTITUDE we carry into dealing with it one way or another.  None of us is perfect, and I believe with my whole heart that if we stopped acting like we were to put on that good ole show for everybody, we could just be real and get to the business at hand----experiencing God's power in our lives, submitting daily to His will, and taking what we have to the world and winning souls for the Kingdom of God!

One day and one person at a time, we CAN make a difference!

Walking in another's shoes...

I am starting to go to a Sunday School class at Heritage that is starting a series called "Outlive Your Life" by Max Lucado.  The intro today was fantastic.  I came out of that time with a couple of main takeaways. The first is that God confirmed the feeling in my heart and my personal attitude that anyone can make a difference anywhere and at anytime.  God can give any single one of us the power to impact a life and we need to be walking with Him so that we can be ready and prepared for that. 

The other is a little more day-to-day practical.  It is that we can never assume that we know what someone else is going through.  How many people know your innermost thoughts?  Your fears, personal issues, failures, stumbling blocks, etc?  So as we try to encourage others and be salt and light, we HAVE to take the view away from that from our own eyes, and rather place it from another's.  Take for example people that stand on the corner with signs asking for money or food.  I have a hard time with that personally, and refuse to give money until God convicts me about it.  I'd be happy to offer food, etc, but don't often think of these people so that I would stop and get it and be prepared!  Either way, today I was shown by God that I need to take any negative from my thinking as it pertains to this segment of people, but rather pray for them individually as I see them.  To pray for some opportunity to make a difference and a clear plan as to what that might look like.  See, how can I even pretend to know what their life might be like?  When was the last time I didn't shower for a week and wear old nasty clothes and go out in public?  When have I ever been without my car, cell phone, friends, support group, etc?  So I am in NO place to act like I know what they are living through or what steps occured to get them where they are.  But God wants them reached somehow.  I absolutely believe that.  He wants everyone reached that doesn't know his Son as their personal Lord and Savior.  He wants us that do know Jesus to be growing and walking daily with Him so that we can change the world.  NEVER lose hope that it can be done.  NEVER NEVER NEVER!!!

Impact a life this week.  Love people as Christ did in his ministry here on Earth.

Be different than this world.  It's ok.  I promise!
